As Tariffs Go Into Effect, ND Farmers Brace for Retaliation

While a pro-trade war delegation visits the White House, family farmers in North Dakota worry about future markets for their crops

(WYNDMERE, ND) — As Kevin Cramer brings a delegation of North Dakotans to meet with Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, Democratic-NPL candidate for Agriculture Commissioner and State Senator Jim Dotzenrod released the following statement:

“Today, the administration announced it was going ahead with a massive tariff increase on China, a move that will almost certainly be met with stiff retaliation. But often lost in the news cycle is the toll these moves will have on family farmers here in North Dakota. Agriculture producers are always the first casualty in a trade war and our farmers need more than talk about 'short-term' pain. I hope these concerns were front and center at today’s meeting at the White House, but based on the administration’s actions I am not convinced they have heard the message.”
